Children's Dentistry

Check-ups, prevention and treatment for babies, children and teenagers, led by an MDS paediatric dentist.

Overview

Children are not small adults. Their teeth, their jaws and their feelings about the dentist are all still developing.

Our consultant pedodontist sees young patients with time to explain, to let them get comfortable, and to involve parents in looking after their child’s teeth at home.

Common questions about children's dentistry

When should my child first see a dentist?

A first visit is commonly recommended around the time the first tooth appears, or by the first birthday. Early visits are mostly about prevention and getting your child used to the dentist.

Do baby teeth really need fillings?

Often, yes. Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth and help children eat and speak. Untreated decay can cause pain and infection. The dentist will explain the options for your child.

Can I stay with my child during the visit?

Yes. Parents are welcome, and for younger children it usually helps.
