Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Surgical care for wisdom teeth, difficult extractions and other procedures of the mouth and jaw.

Overview

Some teeth cannot be removed simply. A wisdom tooth may be trapped under the gum or bone, or a broken tooth may have little left to hold.

Our oral and maxillofacial surgeon carries out these procedures and explains each step, the recovery and the aftercare beforehand.

What it can include

Extractions

  • Tooth extractions (damaged teeth)
  • Wisdom tooth removal
  • Impacted wisdom teeth

Other procedures

  • Apicoectomy
  • Socket preservation
  • Tongue-tie correction (frenectomy)
  • Emergency oral surgery

Common questions about oral & maxillofacial surgery

Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?

No. Wisdom teeth that are healthy and causing no problems can often be left alone. Removal is usually advised when they cause repeated infection, decay or damage to nearby teeth.

How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal?

Most people feel noticeably better within a few days, though it can take longer for the area to heal fully. Recovery depends on how complex the extraction was.
