Orthodontics

Braces and clear aligners that straighten teeth and correct the bite, for children, teenagers and adults.

Overview

Orthodontic treatment gradually moves teeth into better positions. It can straighten crowded or gapped teeth and improve the way your upper and lower teeth meet.

Our consultant orthodontist assesses your teeth and jaws first, then explains which approach suits your case, whether that is fixed braces or clear aligners.

Step by step

What to expect.

Every mouth is different, and your dentist will explain the steps for your own treatment.

  1. Consultation

Examination, photographs and X-rays so the orthodontist can see the whole picture.

  2. Your options

We explain what can be achieved, the choice between braces and aligners, and how long it is likely to take.

  3. Treatment

Braces are fitted, or aligners are provided, with regular adjustment visits.

  4. Retention

Retainers help keep the result. Wearing them as advised matters as much as the treatment itself.

Common questions about orthodontics

Am I too old for braces?

There is no upper age limit for orthodontics as long as your teeth and gums are healthy. Many adults choose treatment.

Braces or clear aligners — which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. Aligners suit many mild-to-moderate cases. Fixed braces can handle a wider range of tooth movements. The orthodontist will recommend what fits your case.

When should a child first see an orthodontist?

An orthodontic check is often useful around the age of seven, when adult teeth begin to come through. Most children will not need treatment that early, but some problems are easier to guide while the jaw is still growing.
